try, attempt and performance?
to try - as in test, consider and investigate
or
to attempt - make an effort, use energy in such and such way/direction
May come to have performative lives when
attempting or trying is that
which is to be
accomplished.
achieved -
achievement of such and such effect or goal, is after-all the action of a certain quality state.
eg
the quality-state of a certain character or a ritual.
let's have a new kind of notion
Attemptance?
The quality of making an effort, of putting energy into something one has no clue how it'll go.
In context of trying to keep authenticity from the traps of performativity -
eg that the whole premise of an act might be a mistake -
Attemptance, since once described, is captured and may be performed
does not offer a way that in and of itself
is entirely not performative.
J beuyes had a bit of an issue with #performance #art and the question of authenticity.
Therefore the development of
#aktion or #action -
as a focus on activities rather than the achievement of such and such effect.
back to #attemptance then,,
lets look from a religious perspective?
How do we get a clue that someone actually believes there's a god,
and someone who
Performs beliefs in a god?
in religious terms - true vs not-so-true believer?
zizek, for example, notes that fundamentalists (real ones in Z's terms), don't mind being questioned, nor require Others to believe.
Perhaps, like in a performance, one needs the audience and appreciating clapping?
Attemptance, in other words, may be performed.
However. It seems that attemptance may
escape performativity through living as a meta-form.
An
If-Attemptance
ie
some such that
Questions the life of attempting and
how such a life
keeps trying stuff through cluelessness.
However.. Why use Attemptance rather than
Performance?
Why not
If-Performance?
Well.. Here comes the rub IMHO..
That since performance has to do with achieving certain effects/goals for living
as performative activities -
questioning turns into some kind of an authentic oxymoron performed.
Let's do such and such effect, by questioning the whole spectrum of such effects?
eg
how do we bake a vanilla cake through
questioning
how to bake such a cake in a way
that indeed produce something else -
eg
a trip
or
a new colour
or even
a chocolate bread
etc?
indeed. i think it's fair to say that #performance #artists with
their emphasis on authenticity
run
pretty
soon
into the discord between attempting to get
x
effects
while authentically
leaving ALL other options
open -
all while using performative materials, contexts, processes and manners.
(eg, audience engagement, being live, etc..)
while If-Attemptance
may indeed find life as
constantly
Authentic
How may it live as a self agent (aka authentic) without a question?
For example, that perhaps it's If-tryAnce?
;)
